Whitey's Fish Camp has been a haven for seafood lovers since their restaurant opened in 1969. That next year, sixteen mobile home sites were added, and in 1980, the campgrounds were changed to accommodate 44 RV sites. Whitey's Fish Camp and Restaurant was re-built in 1988, complete with a full service bar and kitchen, and a dining area large enough to serve 300 customers in one sitting. Additional seating is available is on the large covered deck overlooking Black Creek.
As their motto states, catfish is indeed a special treat at Whitey's, available the only way it should be -- all you can eat! For the timid or not so hungry, you can order it a la carte by the half-pound or as a basket with slaw, fries, and hushpuppies. Additional fish dinners available include grouper, flounder, mahi-mahi, and snapper, all available grilled, blackened, broiled, or fried. I personally recommend the blackened snapper if you're not in the mood for catfish.
Seafood dinners include clam strips and deviled crab; broiled, fried, grilled, or steamed shrimp; oysters and scallops (fried or broiled); and my personal favorite, the Combo (any two of these or one with catfish).
Swamp Vittles are also available when in season. Choose from fried gator tail or turtle, soft shell crab or frog legs, or try two with the Combo.
For you hearty diners out there, Whitey's has four seafood platters that are sure to satisfy your seafood craving. The Broiled Combo includes shrimp, oysters, scallops, and grouper, while the Boathouse Combos offer
fried shrimp, clams, deviled crab, and fish. The Special for One or Two includes everything on the Boathouse plus scallops, catfish, and frog legs or soft shell crab. Still not enough? Try the Deluxe for One or Two. This platter covers the Special plus you get gator tail and turtle! Additionally, all dinners come with a tossed salad or slaw, hush puppies, and your choice of potatoes, red beans and rice, grits, or vegetables.
But save a little room, because no meal at Whitey's is complete without a healthy serving of Swamp Cake!
